Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s biggest and most profitable national carrier, which announced plans to build a mega airport in the Oromia region. Mega airport is going to be bigger than Dubai airport and rival the Istanbul airport. It is valued at $5 bn, would be one of the biggest projects in the country.
Details about the airport:
"The structure will cover 35 square kilometer of land and will reportedly be the biggest airport in Africa. It is going to be bigger than Dubai airport and rival the Istanbul airport. Upon completion it will have an annual passenger handling capacity of 100 million with grand duty free shopping malls, hotels, logistics and training centers. A green light has been reached with the regional government for the “airport city” in Bishoftu specifically a place called Absera. The idea is to take pressure off Bole International Airport with the exponential growth of the carriers’ customers year in and out."
The airline is running a hotel industry around Addis Ababa, which opened a huge hotel edifice last year. On a daily basis hundred of travellers are stayed in the hotels.
